It is said that one pair of shoes can change your life. Last night at the V&A museum there was a mass gathering of fashion’s movers, shakers and lovers to celebrate the launch of an exhibition which is dedicated to pleasure and pain of wearing shoes. With over 200 pair feature across two floors, it sets to explore the extremes of footwear from all around the world. Many guests chose to wear some fancy footwear for the evening, so much of the time was spent eyeing up – some discreetly, some not-so-discreetly – what we were all wearing. After all, it was the perfect occasion for it. I bought along my spikey studded Dr Martens boots which managed to excite admiration from many women and men long before I had even made it inside the museum, when I had queued outside before the party began. Inside the exhibition, each pair of shoes provided a talking point – they are all pieces of history. Imagine an evening where hundreds of people get together over drinks purely to discuss shoes, and you are talking about my idea of heaven. It was the perfect summer evening.
