Today Topshop give birth to a brand new baby in affluent neighborhood of Knightbridge, opening to the general public for the first time just hours after an exclusive launch party involving Anna Wintour, Daisy Lowe, Eva Herzigova and Bella Freud took place. So I made my way down there preparing to be dazzled and enchanted – I am pleased to say it did not disappointed. Standing almost directly opposite Harrods, this Topshop is simply beautiful – in terms of interior and exterior decor, it even blows its much bigger mother, the flagship store, on Oxford Circus well away. Observe too, how you can see the reflection of Harrods in some of the windows.
With several large Topshop flags proudly hanging outside and its beautiful glass windows, this branch looks every bit as classy as you would expect from store in Knightbridge. It needs to be. The shoppers in Knightbridge are generally wealthier to most other places in London and expect to be seduced by luxury and class.
Inside there are three floors – downstairs you will find quite wall to wall shoes hanged from ceiling all the way to the floor on end of the room. Shoe mad girls will think they have stepped into shoe heaven. There are literally hundreds of shoes to choose from. Also included on the basement floor are shirts and other tops.
The ground floor has a selection of bags, hats, belts, umbrellas, accessories, more shoes, dresses, tops and Topshop’s own range of make-up, where there are two make-up assistants ready to help you out. Everything is neatly laid out and well presented. There are sections where shoes and outfits are placed together, giving you ideas how they would work well together as a combination.
The Kate Moss collection is found on the upper floor with a good range of clothes to choose from, and it was fully stocked at the time I was there.
There were DJs inside playing music. Special copies of the Topshop launch newspaper were being handed out and they are nice.
Unfortunately this is a woman-only store. There are no clothes for men here.
I met the manager who was delightfully charming. Beaming with a smile, showing pride and chatting away with me – asking some questions whether I liked the store. I playfully told her it was naughty they didn’t have a men’s section to which she laughed and engaged in a friendly banter. Store managers generally have the habit of coming across too serious and stiff – well, not this one. She was wonderful. I think I have made a friend.
So it is worth a visit? If you are a woman – definitely. It is nowhere near the grand size of the Oxford Circus store but it does look better and more compact thus making it easier to get hold of the all things you need without having to walk so much.
I have taken many great photos of this wonderful store and you can see them all by clicking here.
Please note that all the images were taken by me and the copyright is in my name.
