This show took place at a stunning Georgian house dating back to the 18th century. The grand residence of Lord Edward Davenport. I went there knowing very little about the label, and was unaware that I was in for a very pleasant surprise. The collection is influenced by the Empress. It was a full capacity show at 33 Portland Place, with a number of people needing to be turned away.
This was the label’s fourth collection, entitled “Immortal”. I love a good story and this one was based on a young girl who was gifted to the Chinese Emperor. She toured across the Asian continent, collecting bits of treasures until she became deluded, believing she was the grand ruler of an every land she had set foot upon. Eventually the girl was known as “The Beauty of Xiaohe”. I did not expect to be quite so awestruck when I saw the exotic & elaborate embroidery across the garments. They really are quite magnificent. The collection includes boxy jackets juxtaposed by floaty backless gowns with fabrics involving silks and ostentatiously rich prints.
