The shoe with no foot plate – Mojito by JULIAN HAKES

It looks a bit like a single cut of ribbon wrapped around the feet when worn. I was amazed when I first saw the Mojito by London based architect, Julian Hakes. The design looks very sophisticated and was created using 3-D modelling and printing techniques. You would expect to see a shoe like this sitting as an exhibit inside an art gallery, created simply to be viewed and not worn.

“Is it actually comfortable to wear, considering there is no foot plate?” is what I thought when I picked it up to have a closer look. I am assured it is. When you stand, much of the pressure from the weight of your body falls to the heels and balls of your feet – even more so when wearing a pair of high heels. I can imagine everyone talking about these shoes when worn to parties. They do look pretty cool.

Julian was named “Best footwear designer of the year 2012” by Drapers. His shoes are currently available to buy at SCHUH online and in-store.

Oh wow I love the concept and the idea of wearing them,
however I can’t get past ‘how cold would your feet be’!

I spotted these on Schuh last year and thought they looked pretty amazing. Really reasonably priced for something so designer looking too. I’m intrigued to see how comfortable they are. Will have to try on. I love the chrome ones.
