It was an absolute pleasure to be invited by Julie Deane to spend the late afternoon indulging in some tea, scones, cakes with her at The Cambridge Satchel Company store in Covent Garden. We had a catch-up, discussing how the past few months have gone for the brand (very, very well indeed) and she took me through the spring and summer collections for this year. We discussed colours as it is the main attraction for fans of the bags. The delicate floral hue of Peach Pink and Bellflower Bell with highlights of Orchid and Apple Green feature across a range of styles and sizes. We also see the inclusion of a bicycle logo which is presented in enamel on the front of patent satchels, to give them a polished off, luxurious finish. To my delight, I have noticed that some of the satchels now feature magnetic clasps for easy and quick access to the contents of the bags – hooray! The portrait backpacks are new – they remind me of the backpacks seen on Japanese school children but in a satchel form. Very fashionable. Also, I love the mini baby satchels and the tweed detailing on some of the bags, as I am a big fan of the cloth and being British, it brings out the pride in me.
