Half-way through day one at London Fashion Week, I made my way down to a wonderful French brasserie called Balthazar for a much needed break. It had been a full-on, intense morning attending the shows from 9am and I had not eaten a thing for nearly 14 hours as I just did not have any time to have breakfast. This was just what I needed – a little getaway for two to three hours, for some relaxation and fun.

Balthazar really is quite a special place. Just step inside and you feel like you have stepped into some foreign country – with ceiling fans running across the enormous space, and the gorgeous sepia lighting really adds something special. It was a delightful place to spend time at and has a wonderful lively atmosphere. The staff were not only very welcoming but actually looked very happy to be working there. There is nothing worse than eating in a restaurant where the employees look miserable. It just dampens the mood. Balthazar just makes everyone feel welcome.

The French brasserie in Covent Garden celebrated its second year in February by collaborating with Matthew Williamson to create an afternoon tea inspired by his Spring/Summer 2015 collection. The collection references the relaxed glamour, reminiscent of David Bailey’s shots of Marie Helvin in his book, Chasing Rainbows and has inspired the selection of pastries, and a special cocktail designed by the fashion designer.

The Matthew Williamson Afternoon Tea at Balthazar will be available between 3pm and 5pm every day until Friday, 1 May 2015. Prices start from £25 per person and below you can see exactly what you get for your money.

SELECTION OF SANDWICHES:

Cucumber, Mint and Cream Cheese
Smoked Salmon, Butter and Black Pepper
Crab, Tarragon Mayonnaise and Lemon Juice
Smoked Chicken and Apricot
Egg Mayonnaise and Mustard Cress

FRESHLY BAKED RAISIN AND PLAIN SCONES WITH DEVONSHIRE CLOTTED CREAM AND STRAWBERRY JAM

ASSORTMENT OF MATTHEW WILLIAMSON AFTERNOON CAKES AND DESSERTS:
Strawberry Trifle
Pistachio and Kirsch Macaroon
Pecan Praline Millefeuille
Black Forest Gâteau
Vanilla Cheesecake with Raspberry Jelly and White Chocolate

CHOICE OF TEA AND HERBAL INFUSION

For £10 more (£35 per person) you can have the Chasing Rainbows cocktail which is a refreshing mixture of Pinky vodka, Lillet Blanc, yellow Chartreuse, crystallised rose petals and Brut Champagne. You also have the option to choose a glass of Gaston Chiquet Champagne instead.

It was such a wonderful afternoon and I enjoyed every minute of it. In fact, I made the decision to return to Somerset House a little later than I had originally planned because it was super enjoyable, and I cannot wait to return. The icing on the cake was meeting a few new bloggers, including Molly Bylett and Lucy and Stacey Smith. My really good friends Prince Cassius and Lois Spencer-Tracey also joined us.
