Today was mostly about picking up my badge and getting the basics out of the day – familiarising myself around the area and finding out where everything is. It was super fun. I went late in the afternoon but was lucky as I did not have to queue to get my LFW badge and pass. Was lucky to be given a Mulberry Tote bag even though I did not ask for one – a really nice surprise. There were many, many amateur photographers waiting all around the ground outside for well dressed men and women, snapping away at every opportunity. I met some of the designers and at one point spotted a woman who looked SO much like Susie Bubble and it turned out to be her sister, Elizabeth Lau. I was surprised by how they looked SO alike. I tweeted about this and Elizabeth Lau somehow spotted it and said I must go back and see her, which I definitely will and am excited to do. The moment you see her, you know she’s lovely – with big cute smiles. I am also fairly sure I spotted Liberty London Girl sitting by herself in a quiet room unless she has a clone. We both smiled at each other when she saw my snapping a photo of my tote bag. Funnily enough a couple of girls I don’t know spotted me, “Are you Jai’me Jan?” It was a really nice feeling.
The launch party was good fun – very busy and there was a long queue for the champagne and a couple of great DJs providing some great dance music with heavy bass to listen to. There is also a private area full of computers with WiFi access open only to members of the press which meant I could work there whenever I wanted to, and did. The facilities are outstanding. The London Fashion Week staff are excellent – I did not have one complaint. All my requirements and needs were attended to quickly and efficiently – with a smile.
I had a quick look at some of the spectacularly beautiful fashionable pieces by Holly Fulton & Mary Katrantzou and will be reporting back on this later.
Some more photos.
The press only area – with free use of the computers and full internet access. It’s where I did some of my work:
