Karl Lagerfeld appears at Selfridges to launch a special collection

A few days ago one of my very favourite designers, and to me the King of the fashion industry, flew into London and graced Selfridges with a special visit to launch a collection for the London Olympics. It was a day which saw one of my lifelong dreams come true – to meet the magnificent Karl Lagerfeld. Not only did I get to meet him, shake his hand but I also got to talk to the delightful man. It was quite a surreal experience which I will forever treasure.

Located on the 3rd floor, next to the MAC cosmetics, the KARL LAGERFELD space features a monochrome collection made up of blazer and biker jackets, trousers, jeans – with gold paint splattered across them. There are also t-shirts featuring the Olympic medals and torch, and camouflage parkas. Accessories including tote bags, iPhone cases, detachable high collars and fingerless leather gloves.

There was a huge buzz outside and inside Selfridges awaiting King Karl for 2 hours before he made his grand entrance, and marched towards the 3rd floor. It was like a Royalty had descended to the place, and he is certainly is a fashion Royalty.

This is the moment just before he took my hand, MY HAND, shook it and gave me a grin! Yes I got a proper grin out of him – I could not believe it. Everyone looked at us, many were amazed, all the cameras by the TV crew were pointed at us – it just felt very much like a dream. I thanked him for coming down to see us. It gave me a lot of joy to know he actually enjoyed meeting me. Once he moved on, a few people came up to me looking stunned and asked what it was like. My hands were gently shaking, and it takes a lot to make them shake like that! There was a French man all the way from Paris asking me what it felt like, and a female model who also managed to meet him – we shared our experiences. I still cannot believe I touched those famous gloves Karl wears.

I really enjoyed viewing at the collection. My favourite piece is the white biker jacket and I am thinking about getting the iPhone case. I wish to God I had a photo of myself meeting Karl but it all happened so quickly and everyone, literally everyone wanted to meet him – this includes all the A-listed celebs who were there. I am just happy for the moment I got. Later in the day, I found out that I made it onto German TV, and really wish I had a copy of that coverage to watch and keep!
