Euguene Lin launched his eponymous label in 2009 and made his debut London Fashion Week collection yesterday at. The Singapore born designer is based in London and gained his education in BA (Hons) in Fashion Design Womenswear at Central Saint Martins.
The SS13 collection is inspired by the beautiful story of “Judgement of Paris”, from the Greek mythology. It is a story in which Zeus held a banquet in celebration of the marriage of Peleus and Thetis, to which Eris, goddess of discord was not invited. Showing the full extent of her fury, Eris forces her way in, carrying an apple inscribed with “καλλίστῃ” (kallistēi, “for the fairest one”), in which she throws at the party. Then Hera, Athena and Aphrodite attempt to claim the apple.

This collection highlights Eugene’s cutting techniques and is finished off using digital prints. Outerwear is beautifully converted into dresses and tops – I just love how he pulled it off using the design of the trench coat – with emphasis on the lapels and belts. Earthly tones, gentle pink, golden and black symbolises the personalities of the Greek goddesses using rich silks and crisp cottons.
The digital prints captures the dramatic tension surrounding the story.
