I have a confession to make. I hate beer. Seriously, I really do detest the taste of beer. I will happily enjoy a glass of whiskey, cider, wine, champagne, vodka, tequila but beer is a different story. As is lager and ale. I can only assume it is an acquired taste. So imagine my astonishment and surprise then when I tried some bread made from beer at The Beer Bakery in east London and found that I found them to be quite delicious. So much so I could not stop eating them when I attended the launch party. When you think of beer bread, you most likely assume it would have that same bitter taste but in fact, they taste more like regular bread than beer.
This beer bakery is the world’s first and serves an exclusive range of bread specifically baked to complement beer. They are made from natural ingredients and created in partnership with Tom and Henry Herbert of The Fabulous Baker Brothers. Open to the public until Saturday 31st October, it is expected to sell thousands of loaves in the days to come. A choice of six different bread – from sourdough to spelt and barley will be available to buy. They are each inspired by a different beer from the world’s leading brewer AB InBev and bring together the Great British Pub and the rise of Artisan Bakeries.
Who knew you could eat beer?
