I have been in an enviable position of watching the exceptionally gifted Haizhen take some giant leaps in the fashion world ever since he was named one of the finalists for the Fashion Fringe award last year in May. It has been a real joy spending time with him, watching him unleash his potential and take it up several levels over the last few months. I always say talent should be nurtured, and Fashion Fringe did exactly that. Last September I interviewed him to monitor his progress and at that time we had no idea who would win Fashion Fringe, then he went on to win and has come a long way since. He deservedly won Fashion Fringe for his outstanding creations and dedication to his work. The way his mind works and his vision continues to surprise me.
A few days ago, he presented his very first solo catwalk show at London Fashion Week AW13 and I went down to meet him, surprise him actually because he had no idea I was coming, backstage at the BFC catwalk show space. Make-up artist Yin Lee and her AOFM Pro team had put together a Chinese warrior style make-up using stencils and sky blue paints to give a tribal influence. It was very fast paced backstage as the make-up team, hair-stylists and fashion stylists worked together rushing to get all the models ready for the very last show of London Fashion Week.
There will be backstage videos to come on this blog, from Haizhen’s show, in a few days. In the meantime enjoy the photos.
