Last week a charity gala, held at Chak89, took place to bring together the world of fashion and celebrity in aid of The Serenge Project – named after the birthplace of Emeli Sandé’s father in Zambia. The charity works to support the needs of the local community through education and medical help.
During the evening, guest were treated to performances from comedian Doc Brown, the very soulful Mica Paria and a very special acoustic set by platinum-selling artist Emeli Sandé. We were all served a three-course Indian dinner (yum) that I just could not get enough of. I caught up with Oliver Proudlock, the lovely Rosie Fortescue, and the duo from TOWIE, Lauren Pope and Sam Sam Faiers for a chat. I have to say, I was in love with Lauren’s black strapped playsuit – we both ended up admiring each other’s outfits as she was quick to compliment me first by singing the praises of the velvet jacket I had on. Such a charming lady. Rosie’s black lace top was beautiful!
Of the The Serenge project, Emeli had this to say: “I had the opportunity to fulfil the dream of a lifetime, and go to Zambia, the birthplace of my father earlier this year. It was wonderful to see the amazing work that Oxfam have done and continue to do. Having had the chance to visit my fathers hometown, this wonderful charitable donation will enable us to help fund causes dear to us on a personal level ands specific to his home village and made a sizeable difference to many lives.”
I had a little dance later on but not for long as I definitely had too much to eat. Indian food tastes so damn good – you cannot blame a man for not resisting. Luckily I had a taxi to drive me home when near midnight I decided I needed to go. Such a brilliant night of fun.
Some well known faces of the evening included Danny Dyer, Rosie Fortescue, Oliver Proudlock, Sam Faiers, Lauren Pope, Zara Martin, Lilah Parsons and Ola Jordan, Vincent Samone and Flavia Cacace from BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.
Down below you will find a little video I made, of Emeli’s live performance of the night. Do enjoy it.
