The John Smedley AW16 Presentation at London Collections: Men

This collection is said to be influenced by the passion and craftsmanship seen throughout the British abstract movement. The works of artists Peter Lanyon, Patrick Heron and Victor Pasmore are cited as crucial importance in relation to the development of it. A tonal palette is used to replicate textures reminiscent of brush stroke from both oils and class paints to create beauty from rough technique and new patterns are created to detail etching and abstract stippling.

New shades Gardner Red and Hepburn Smoke recalls the enthusiasm of the artists whilst Brando Blue and Bardot Greys are said to reproduce the palette of St Ives – the backdrop to the artist collective’s inspirations.

London-based painter Doris A. Day (seen painting in the above photos) was commissioned to create three bespoke hand-painted artwork knitwear using the classic Marcus style. During this presentation one further piece was created. All four painted knitwear are to be sold at a later date.
