Mum’s Christmas Partywear Makeover

I was asked to get involved in an interesting style challenge recently. The challenge was to buy and style my mum for a party using clothes and accessories from Marks & Spencer and spending no more than £70. What make it even more of a challenge was the fact that my mother does not wear dresses – which meant I had to go browsing for a pair of trousers and a suitable top – all in size 16-18 from the AW13 womenswear collection. I love a challenge and was ready to do this!

What I had in mind was to either go for a cashmere or cable knit and a pair of smart trousers. I felt perhaps the cashmere jumper would look too thin on her, and risk making her body look bigger than it is, so I went for a chunky cable knit as it can look great oversized. The Indigo Collection Cable Knit Jumper with Wool fitted the bill. It looked like a fun, comfortable top to wear – a classic cable knit is a timeless piece. As for trousers I didn’t think skinnies, or slim would work for my mum, so I went for M&S Collection 2 Zip Pocket Straight Leg Trousers in a brownish Chocolate Mix colour. By now I just had just £11 left out of my £70 budget and wanted to make full use of the remaining money, so I felt going for the M&S Collection Cashmilon Ruffle Scarf would be a lovely way to round off mum’s outfit.

I wanted to take a full length outfit photo but unfortunately mum is self-conscious of her stomach, so I couldn’t do so even though she looked great! How do you think I did?
